Today, 5 March, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny.

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR

05 Mar 1968: 65294555N Rifleman Cornelius Andre Grobler from 6 SAI was killed in a military vehicle accident in Grahamstown. He was 20.

05 Mar 1974: 71210439N Rifleman Gerhardus Johannes Jacobus van Rhyn from 6 SAI died from gunshot wounds accidentally sustained at Bwabwata, Western Caprivi. He was 18.

05 Mar 1980: 72208721BT Rifleman Johannes Jacobus Maass from Regiment Erongo was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 24.

05 Mar 1980: 67339689BT Rifleman Eric Norman van Reenen from 52 Battalion was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents near the Cut-line in Northern Owamboland. He was 29.

05 March 1993: 91099275CK Lance Corporal Sydwell Boer from 3 SAI was killed in a military vehicle accident on the N3 at Keyridge. He was 25. 

    RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

    1975 – Officer Cdt Clive Davy (aged 26), 9th Bn RR, KIA. Died in Andrew Fleming Hospital, Salisbury, from a gunshot wound to the head.

    1977 – Cst Mudavanhu Kleto (aged 37), Uniform BSAP, KOAS. Died in hospital of injuries received the previous day in a hit-and-run accident in the Gwelo district when he was going off duty,

    1977 – Rfn Neville Waters (aged 28), 8th Bn RR, KIA.

    1979 – M Tech Phillip James, RhAF, DOAS.

    1979 – Cpl Tarupwa Jeche, 8th Bn RR, KIA.

    1980 – WO1 Lionel Ferguson, STTC RhASC, DOAS from a myocardial infarction, Salops area.
