30 Mar 1980: 74346776PF Sergeant Barend Zacharias Gericke from 32 Battalion was Killed in Action after suffering multiple shrapnel wounds from a Soviet 82mm High Explosive Mortar Bomb that exploded near him during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Southern Angola. He was 21.
30 Mar 1980: 79876835SN Rifleman Johannes Oarum from 41 Battalion SWATF was killed in Northern Owamboland when he was struck by a bullet resulting from an accidental discharge of a fellow soldier’s rifle. He was 18.
30 Mar 1984: Four members from the Congella Regiment and one member from Group 10 attached to the Regiment were killed and one critically injured when their Military Landrover Vehicle was struck and flattened by an articulated vehicle loaded with logs that jack-knifed across the road approximately 9 km outside Richmond. 30 Mar 1987: 77330108PE Sergeant (Flight Engineer) Daniel Lan from 16 Squadron was Killed in Action after being hit by enemy small arms fire while acting as door gunner in Alouette III 624 during a close-air support operation against SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in the Oshivello area. He was 27.

1977 – DA Nguni Siatepula MUCHETE, Regular Intaf, was killed on active service in Gokwe, Op Grapple.
1978 – Cst Vengesayi MAGUNDA, GC, BSAP, died on active service.
1978 – A Sgt/Maj Ndumiso Prince Bhebe MTHEKELI (Bronze Baton for Bravery) Uniform, BSAP, was killed in a CT action in the Tjolotjo area, Op Tangent, aged 34. In March 1977, he received the Commissioner's Commendation (Bronze Baton) in recognition of his bravery, tenacity and devotion to duty.
1979 – Pte John JOULE, 10 RR, attached JOC Grapple, was murdered by CTs, Gwelo, Op Grapple, aged 24 years. Three terrorists, dressed in blue denims and armed with AK rifles, entered the Ascot Beerhall with the intention of carrying out a robbery. They entered from the rear and at gunpoint held up about 25 patrons who were leaving, and demanded to be shown where the manager's office was. As they were being shown the office, they saw Mr. Brooke-Mee, a local farmer, sitting outside, and shot him several times at close range, killing him. They then ran and opened fire on a parked grey car in which Pte John Joule was sitting. Eleven shots hit the car, killing him.
