Today, 31 March, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny.

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR

31 Mar 1977: 65576993BA Private Wilhelm Jacobus Johannes van Niewenhuizen from 32 Field Workshop Squadron was killed in a military vehicle accident. He was 28.

31 Mar 1984: 72436942BT Rifleman Grant Edward Brierley from the Congella Regiment died in hospital after being critically injured on 30 March 1984 when his Military Landrover Vehicle was struck by a vehicle loaded with logs 9 km outside Richmond. Four other members from the Regiment and Group 10 Headquarters were killed instantly in the accident. He was 27. 

    RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

    1977 – DSA Johannes BUNGWE, Kp Prtn, Intaf, was killed in action at Chipinga, Op Thrasher.

    1978 – Dip Sup Mzingwane DUBE, ADF, Intaf, was murdered by CTs.

    1978 – D/Sgt Prosper TANI, CID, BSAP, was killed in accidental shooting at Chabweno Farm, Enterprise, when engaged by a PATU stick at night. Prosper was in Pseudo role with SB Projects section at the time. Died at the age of 26.

    1979 – Sgt John Zindoga HAMANDISHE, 1st Bn, RAR, was killed in a CT action.
