Today, 6 April, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny.

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR

06 April 1977: 76928167SP Rifleman S. Henrique from 32 Battalion was Killed in Action during a contact with enemy forces in Southern Angola. He was 29.

06 April 1981: 73269086BG Rifleman Petrus Jacobus Venter from SWA SPES Unit SWATF was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents near the Cut Line. He was 23.

06 April 1982: 78447562BG Rifleman Hymje Landsman from 8 SAI was killed in a Military Vehicle Accident in Eastern Kavangoland. He was 19.

06 April 1983: 82900457SWK Corporal I.S. Kamunoko from 202 Battalion SWATF was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 23.

06 April 1987: 80532278BT Private Russell Joseph Brissett from 1 Medical Battalion Group was killed in a Military Vehicle Accident in Mamelodi during Operation Xenon. He was 23 

    RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

    1975 – Arthur Anderson CHIWASHIRA, ADF, Intaf, died on active service.

    1976 – Rifleman Robert Andrew BLACK, 2nd Battalion, Rhodesian Regiment, KIA. Killed by a gunshot wound, in an ambush, in the operational area. Died aged 23 and cremated in Bulawayo.

    1977 – Rifleman Ronald Alexander BARTON, 4th Battalion, Rhodesia Regiment, KIA. Killed during a contact in Melsetter, Op Thrasher, when he sustained a fatal bullet wound in his leg.

    1977 – Field Reservist Douglas McFadzean DODD, PATU, BSAP, KIA. Killed in an ambush in the Mtoroshanga area, Op Hurricane, aged 31. His funeral service took place in Salisbury on 12 April.

    1978 – Field Reservist Douglas Llewellyn COURTNEY, Police Reserve, BSAP, killed on active service. Killed aged 38 whilst on duty in the Mtoko area, Op Hurricane. His private funeral was held at Warren Hills Cemetery, Salisbury, on 10 April.

    1979 – Temporary Sergeant Gerald KILDUNNE, 1 Maintenance Company, Rhodesian Army Service Corps, KIA. Killed in a CT action, aged 32 years. Buried in the Athlone Cemetery, Bulawayo. His headstone gives his date of death as 06-April 1979.

    1979 – Trooper Kingston MUZONDO, Selous Scouts, KIA. Killed in a CT action.

    1979 – Private Obert TAPSON, D Company, 10th Battalion, Rhodesia Regiment, KIA. Killed in a CT action. Date of Death also found listed as 13 April.

    1979 – Private Joramu VAZHURE, 2 MU, Rhodesian Army Service Corps, KIA. Killed in a CT action, at the age of 19. He is buried in the Warren Hills Cemetery, Salisbury.
