Today, 24 May, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny.

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR

24 May 1979: 74229311BG Private Albertus Mundy from 16 Maintenance Unit was killed in a military vehicle accident at Grootfontein. He was 21.

24 May 1991: 86109584KB Corporal Revis Omie Khoza from the Kruger Park Commando was killed after he was attacked and trampled to death by an enraged buffalo while on patrol in the Kruger National Park. He was 35.

RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

1974 – Signalman Joseph MADUWA, 4 Squadron, Rhodesian Corps of Signals, killed on active service. Died in Salisbury Hospital, Salisbury, from a gunshot wound he received to the head in Goromonzi. He was 35 years old and is buried in Goromonzi.

1977 – Tribal Militia Thomas NDHLOVU, Chief’s Staff, Intaf, killed on active service. Killed in Matobo, Op Tangent.

1978 – Field Reservist Caesar Gaddini, Police Reserve, BSAP, killed on active service. Died from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident the previous day in the Salops operational area, aged 47 years. His requiem mass was held in the Salisbury Catholic Cathedral on 26 May, followed by private interment at Warren Hills Cemetery. Patrol Officer J.A. Franke who was killed in the same accident on 23 May.
1978 – Dip Attendant Norman MUDZWIDZA, ADF, Intaf, murdered. Killed by CTs.
