Today, 23 July, we salute and honor the following men who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny.

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR

23 Jul 1973: 71458368BA Rifleman Stuart Craig McGregor from 4 SAI died from a gunshot wound to the stomach while stationed at Greefswald . He was 18.

23 Jul 1984: 78931052HK Rifleman K. Murongo from 202 Battalion was Killed in Action during a contact with PLAN insurgents. He was 22.

RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

23-Jul-79 Gd Benard Bernard - not his surname RHQ Charlie, Op Repulse GF KIA This would almost certainly not have been his surname, but his first name - a not uncommon habit back then of clerical "errors." Sadly, we may never know his surname, that is so important in tracing our black soldiers' tribal background. It is more likely that this entry could be a "typo", and that the first name should also read "Bernard".

† Their names and sacrifices have not been forgotten †
