Today, 31 July, we salute and honor the following men who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny. 

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR 

31 July 1978: 72531742BG Sapper Louis Francois Porter from 46 Survey Squadron, South African Corps of Engineers, was killed in a military vehicle accident at Kimbezi in Eastern Caprivi. He was 21.

31 July 1982: 78914058SP Rifleman Domingo Dala Denge from 32 Battalion was Killed in Action during a contact with enemy forces in Southern Angola. He was 30.

31 July 1987: 84319656BG Airman Jacques de Villiers Snyders from TEK Base was killed in a private motorcycle accident in Central Pretoria when his motorcycle collided with a truck at the intersection of Church and Rebecca Street. He was 18.

31 July 1987: 80251077BG Rifleman Louis Samuel Du Piesanie from Infantry School was killed in a private motor vehicle accident 8km from Beaufort West. He was 23.

31 July 1989: 86276052BG Private Edward Stephen Cooper from the Provost School was killed when his SAMIL 50 overturned at the Army Battle School. He was 18.

31 July 1991: Two members from 111 Battalion were killed when their military vehicle that was transporting patients to 1 Military Hospital, overturned on the N4 Highway near Cullinan. They were:

  • 86742814HF Rifleman Bonisani Abednego Sibuyi. He was 27
  • 89729982HF Rifleman Morris Mavabaza Simbine. He was 33

    31-Jul-79 DSA David Mkohliso Kp Prtn Intaf DOAS

    31-Jul-79 DSA Maxwell Njenge Kp Prtn Intaf DOAS
