Today, 11 August, we salute and honor the following men who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny.

11 Aug 1977: 75495432BA Rifleman Michael Gerrard Lemmer from 2 SAI was accidentally killed during a training exercise near Otjiwarongo. He left the confines of the Temporary Base (TB) during the night and on returning, was shot dead by the Bren Gunner who mistook him for an insurgent. He was 18..

RHODESIAN BUSH WAR 

11-Aug-77 2LT Charl Fouche C Coy, 9th Bn RR KIA Lt Fouche led a patrol on Towla Ranch searching for a suspected CT base. The base was found, and in an ensuing fire-fight, Fouche and Rfn Andre van Wijk were both killed.

11-Aug-78 Rfn Andrew "Mac" Moonsammy 1st Bn RDR KOAS Killed in an army vehicle accident, aged 18 years.

11-Aug-79 Cst Regis Nyamuzinga GC BSAP KOAS Died after falling off a vehicle in the Concession area, OP Hurricane, aged 26.

11-Aug-78 FR Morgan Ruza PR BSAP KIA in the Hurricane operational area, at the age of 20.
