Today, 6 October, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny. 

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR

06 Oct 1978: 77526820BG Rifleman Anton Wicht Cloete from 11 Commando Regiment was killed when his Buffel Troop Carrier overturned at Etale Base. He was 18.

06 Oct 1982: 80698004CK Lance Corporal Petrus Johannes Jakobus De Wee from the South African Cape Corps accidentally drowned. His body was eventually recovered on 08 October 1982. He was 20.

06 Oct 1986: 72227713PE Major Benjamin Terblanche from 51 Battalion was critically wounded by shrapnel in a friendly fire (Mortar Bomb) incident at Ruacana on 5 October 1986. He was evacuated to 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria but succumbed to his wounds on 06 October 1986. He was 30.

RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

1966 – NCO Michael John SPARKS, Depot, RRR, was killed in a vehicle accident on the Salisbury/ Bulawayo road, aged 33 years.
