Today, 5 October, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny. 

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR

05 Oct 1973: 71417653N Trooper Daniel Petrus Boshoff from 1 Special Service Battalion was killed when his Eland 90 Armoured Car overturned during military training exercises at the General De Wet Training Range. He was 18.

05 Oct 1976: 66522707BT Corporal Marius Pieter De Swardt from the 1st Battalion Regiment De La Rey was accidentally killed after being struck by a bullet during a shooting incident at Grootfontein. He was 26.

05 Oct 1977: 724080858BT Rifleman Brian Alan Ross from the Rand Light Infantry was Killed in Action in a landmine explosion at a waterhole near Etale Base in Northern Owamboland. He was 21.

RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

1977 – Cst Bernard CHIANIKE, Uniform, BSAP, died in Harare Hospital from injuries received in a motor cycle accident on 30 September, at the age of 33. He was on duty at the time of the tragic accident.

1978 – Cst Thomas CHORUWA, ZA Tp, SU, BSAP, was murdered by CTs whilst on leave at his home in the Hartley area, aged 25 years.

1978 – Sgt M.D. STEELE, RIC, died in a vehicle accident.

1979 – Aux Cst Pangai DZINGIRAYI, BSAP, died in tragic circumstances, Bikita, Op Repulse, aged 25 years.
