Today, 29 November, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny. 

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR 

29 Nov 1974: 67287482E Corporal Allan Geoffrey Becker from Regiment Noord Transvaal was accidentally killed while servicing a military vehicle in Leydsdorp. The vehicle slipped off the jacks and crushed him. He was 24.

29 Nov 1977: 75528117BG Trooper Ruben van Niekerk from 1 Special Service Battalion was killed in a military vehicle accident while serving in the Operational Area. He was 18.

29 Nov 1986: 82258641PE Gunner Gerrit Meintjies from 4 Artillery Regiment was killed in a private vehicle accident on the Potgietersrus road while on leave. He was 20.

29 Nov 1987: 84558303BG Private Alexander Talbat Nelson Sadler from 101 Base Workshops was critically injured, suffering massive internal injuries in Southern Angola during Operation Modular when he was accidentally run over by a Kwé supply vehicle. He unfortunately succumbed to his injuries before he could be medically evacuated. He was 20.

RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

1977 – DSA Herod MPOFU, Kp Prtn, Intaf, died on active service.

1977 – L/St Obert MULASI (Bronze Baton for Bravery), L Tp, SU, BSAP, was killed in a shooting accident in Ops area, aged 24. His headstone gives the date of death as 27 November.

1977 – Kp Comm James Robert SCOTT, PV Prtn Group, GF, died on active service.

1978 – Pte Samuel CHILENJE (14) and Pte A. NYONI (28), both of 1(Indep) Coy, RAR, were killed in a vehicle accident, aged 17.

1978 – DSAs Peter James MUNETSI, Watson MUTETA and Phahlani NDHLOVU, all of Kp Prtn, Intaf, were murdered by CTs while on R&R.
