Today, 5 December, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny. 

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR 

05 Dec 1980: 78930682HK Rifleman Frans Nyundu from 202 Battalion SWATF was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 32.

05 Dec 1981: 77522811BG Rifleman Wayne Leon Jooste from 8 SAI was killed when his Buffel Troop Carrier overturned in Northern Owamboland. He was 20

05 Dec 1983: 79496709BG Private Stefan Willem Welgemoed from the South African Medical College, attached to Naval Base Durban, was killed in a military vehicle accident at Richmond. He was 19.

05 Dec 1984: 82831108SCC Trooper Johannes Fred from 202 Battalion SWATF was Killed when his Buffel Troop Carrier overturned in Northern Owamboland. He was 19.

 

RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

1974 –Cst Titus ZWINOGUMBA, Uniform, BSAP, was killed in a hit and run accident in Gatooma, whilst on his way from Hartley to Gwelo to attend a BSAP Association meeting.

1976 – DA Wonder GARWE, Regular, Intaf, was killed in an accidental shooting, Muyawiri DC Base Camp, Chinamora TTL, Goromonzi. He was 23 years old.

1977 – Pte MANDAVA, RhASC, died on active service.

1979 – Tpr Gary BRANDT, 1 Cdo, 1st Bn, RLI, was killed in an accident whilst returning to barracks. Died aged 19.

1979 – FR Salomon MARITZ, PATU, BSAP, was killed in a CT action in the Op Grapple area, at the age of 39.
