Today, 27 January, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny.


27 Jan 1984: 80519424BG Corporal Johannes Adam De Beer from 8 SAI was Killed in Action after stepping on an enemy Anti-Personnel Mine while on Patrol in Southern Angola. He was 19.

27 Jan 1984: Special Constable Paulino Kangombe from the South West Africa Police Counter-Insurgency Wing: Ops-K Division (Koevoet) was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 32.


      1977 – Cst Phillip MUTIMBANYOKA, Uniform, BSAP, died in a vehicle accident in Salisbury, aged 22 years.

      1978 – Cst Thomas CHITIMA, F Tp, SU, BSAP, died in tragic circumstances, aged 22 years. (

      1979 – SO Christopher Reginald Neville ‘Chris’ COTTON, E Tp, SU, BSAP, was killed in an ambush in the Gutu district, Op Repulse, at the age of 26.

      1979 – Pte Tobias KUTINYU, 4th Bn, RR, killed by a landmine.
