Today, 31 January, we salute and honour the following men & woman who sacrificed their lives whilst standing in the defence of what they held dear at the time and against evil and tyranny.

SOUTH AFRICAN BORDER WAR

31 Jan 1982: 81543969PE Sergeant (Mrs) Elizabeth Mostert from Orange Free State Command was accidentally killed while on duty in Voortrekkerhoogte when she was run over by a police vehicle. She was 50.

31 Jan 1985: Sergeant Willem van As from the South West Africa Police Counter-Insurgency Wing: Ops-K (Koevoet) was Killed in Action during a contact with PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 27.

31 Jan 1985: 81956534SWK Rifleman K.E. Mbambo from 202 Battalion SWATF was Killed in Action during a contact with PLAN insurgents. He was 22.

31 Jan 1986: 05546072PE Commandant Marchall Aubrey Joseph Facer from the Highveld Air Space Control Sector at Devon was killed in a private motor vehicle accident at Delmas. He was 39. 

      RHODESIAN BUSH WAR

      1974 – Tpr Michael St George John MORRIS, C Sqn, SAS, was killed in a shooting accident when a member of his patrol mistook him for the enemy in the dark. Died in Mt Darwin, Op Hurricane, at the age of 20.

      1975 – DA Parents Nicholas MAKORE, Regular Intaf, was killed when his vehicle detonated a landmine on the Mukumbura Road, Mt Darwin, Op Hurricane (US640778). Died aged 30.

      1977 – Gd J. BUNGWE, PV Prtn Group, GF, died in an accidental shooting.

      1977 – L/Cpl Colin George SUTHERLAND, 5th Bn, RR, died in a vehicle ambush, Op Hurricane.

      1977 – DA Godfrey TOPERESU, Regular Intaf, was killed in a CT action at Chiredzi, Op Repulse.
