16 Feb 1976: Two civilians were shot and killed at Okatjiho in Northern South West Africa by suspected SWAPO/PLAN insurgents. The men were eventually tracked down to a house in Katutura Township outside Windhoek on 19 April 1976. During the shoot-out that followed, Filemon Nangola, was wounded and captured, and a black Police Detective Sergeant was killed. The other man, Kenisius Heneleshi, made good his escape. From fingerprint evidence gathered at the scene, it appeared that these two men were allegedly also responsible for the deaths of Mrs Shirley Louw and her son Bertus on their farm outside Grootfontein on 20 December 1975. 16 Feb 1979: 76909282SP Rifleman Manuel Serrote from 32 Battalion died from Typhoid Fever at Buffalo. He was 36.
16 Feb 1982: 80875530BC Rifleman Daniel Cloete from 911 Battalion SWATF accidentally drowned in a flooded shona/river bed at Grid Reference position 810170TL while on patrol in the Kaokoveld. He was 18.
16 Feb 1983: 82902230SWK Rifleman L.K, Kambathi from 202 Battalion SWATF was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents. He was 21.
16 Feb 1986: Two members from 101 Battalion Romeo Mike SWATF were Killed in Action when their Casspir was hit by an RPG-7 Anti-Tank Rocket during a contact with enemy forces in Southern Angola. They were:
16 Feb 1986: Special Constable Abel Utewga from the South West Africa Police Counter-Insurgency Wing: Ops-K Division (Koevoet) was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 27.
1976 – Rct Wankie MAPONGA, S Scouts, died in hospital from multiple injuries in a vehicle accident on the main Kariba road, Op Hurricane. He was 19 years old. E Maguri and F Marisa died in the same accident the previous day.
1976 – Sqn Ldr Gerard Anthony "Rusty" ROUTLEDGE, Sigs Officer, RhAF, was killed in an air accident at Perrem Airfield near Umtali, Op Thrasher, at the age of 36. His young SAAF pilot attempted to overshoot but, stalled and Rusty was killed upon the unsuccessful landing of the overloaded Cessna 185.
1978 – L/Cpl Peter FAZO, S Scouts, died on active service, aged 22 years.
1978 – Rfn Clive Dudley VAN BLOMESTEIN, 5th Bn RR, attached to RIC, was killed in an accidental shooting by a member of his own call-sign, on the border between commercial farmlands and the TTLs in Sipolilo district, Op Hurricane. Their RL truck had broken down late in the day, so a decision was made to spend the night at the spot, with all-round defence being set in place. During the night, Clive went to relieve himself in the dark, at which time one of the troops shot at the movement in the shadows, fatally wounding Clive.
1978 - Sgt Patrick ZAMBARA, C/S 22A, S Scouts, was killed in a contact in Nyajena TTL, Op Repulse. During a pseudo operation, they were attacked by a detachment of 30 CTs, led by Nylon Ndela. This was the same group responsible for attacking a Selous Scouts convoy on 5 February 1978, in which 5 members of the unit were killed.
1979 – Rfn George Carl BESTER, 1st Bn, RDR, died from a gunshot wound, aged 41 years.
1979 – Pte Obert MBAMBO, 4th Bn RR, died on active service, aged 24.
