Although written in the true Memoire style, this book gives an insight into the emotions, physical hardships, and doubt sometimes suffered by soldiers under pressure. Balaam does not glamourize his time in the military but rather gives a warts-and-all account. Also contains some interesting, though sad, information regarding the effort to destabilize the region under the Nationalist government. A great, interesting read.
Well written book containing facts and first hand details by the author
Looking forward to Andrew's next book due early 2020
A good depiction of some of the hardships endured as operators as well as normal troopies, in a harsh environment with little equipment and the outside world doing its best to get in the way. Sad to see how he was manipulated by the Botha and De Klerk, Government. But, when you have been a soldier from your school days, adjustment to Civvie life is hard for many. It is 38 years and there are times, I am still out of sorts
This one is really great and well worth waiting for, thanks guys Brian in Plett.
