Wow, just WOW! Unforgettable memoir!

Mozambique has been my go-to holiday destination since I first went there in 2004, I love the country, the weather, the people, the beaches and the food!

Only after visiting Mozambique, did I read up on the history of the country and the conflict that happened there. I was fascinated by the beauty you can still see in the towns and in the same picture the devastation and sadness it came to be.

I came across this book, and I was immediately intrigued and curious. I started reading it, and I couldn’t put it down! The first hand tales of adventure, excitement, love, tragedy, sorrow, compassion and friendships had me laughing and crying.

The author writes with extreme clarity and detail and I felt as though I was there with him. The political detail and history is rich with facts. The vivid descriptions of the war scenes were heartbreaking, and the friendships that remain are inspiring.

Considering the state of our very own South Africa currently, this book was of great interest to me. Seeing a great country destroyed in such a short time was devastating.

If you are looking for a book you won’t be able to put down, get this.

Very well written book on not just the life the people had to live, but also the issues around them that drove this insane period in a troubled region and how it impacted the trucking community servicing and starving land. Very well researched.

The Author provides a very sobering view of his experiences and the historical and political landscape in Mozambique a time when the country was in a state of chaos.
Although the seriousness of the war looms throughout the story, the author is able to deliver his life stories and experiences with an often humorous undertone, which provides a view to the state of mind required to endure such danger in the world’s most treacherous and isolated roads. I enjoyed the fact that while telling his collections of stories, he is able to do so in both an entertaining manner and at the same time providing an interesting insight to the often forgotten dark history of the Portuguese former colonies. Highly recommended!
