Lest We Forget... 1 September

01 September, let us pause for a minute to remember the following young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.

01 Sep 1979: 72261779PE Lieutenant Chris Jansen from 1 Satellite Radar Station at Mariepskop was killed in a private motor vehicle accident at Pilgrims Rest. He was 22.

01 Sep 1983: 05553276PE Warrant Officer Class II Johannes Petrus Lodewickus van Bosch from the South African Engineer Corps, attached to Sector 20 Headquarters was killed in a military vehicle accident between Rundu and Bagani when his military vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another military vehicle. He was 39.

01 Sep 1983: 81126054BG Seaman A.R. Roux from the South African Marines was critically wounded after being accidentally shot by another Leading Seaman while his platoon was on patrol in the Caprivi. He was casevaced by helicopter to Katima Mulilo but unfortunately succumbed to his wounds while still aboard the helicopter and was certified dead on arrival. He was 18.

01 Sep 1986: 78292281BG Rifleman Simon Robert Hood from 32 Battalion was killed when he accidentally fell off the back of a moving Buffel Troop Carrier near Rundu. He was 24.

01 Sep 1988: 84225622BG Lance Corporal Petrus Jacobus Herbst from Walvis Bay Command was killed in a Military Vehicle Accident between Otjiwarongo & Okahandja. He was 20.

Their names and sacrifice have not been forgotten.
