Lest We Forget... 12 October

12 October, let us pause to remember these young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.

12 Oct 1963: P2/18090 Air Corporal Hermanus Pieter Bodenstein from the School of Technical Training died from critical head injuries sustained in a private motor vehicle accident 8 km from Middelburg while travelling on the Hendrina Road. He was 25.

12 Oct 1975: 71236384N Trooper David Barand Le Roux from 1 SSB was Killed in Action when his Eland 90 Armoured Car detonated a landmine near Luiana in Southern Angola during Operation Karen 2, the Operation that was launched to clear SWAPO/PLAN bases in South-Eastern Angola prior to the launch of Operation Savannah. He was 20.

12 Oct 1995: 87762647PE Corporal Gift Lafangathi Mdlalose from 121 Battalion was fatally wounded at Keates Drift after being shot while carrying out a house search that was suspected of containing a hidden weapons cache. He was 24.

Their names and sacrifice have not been forgotten.
