Lest We Forget... 2 October

02 October, let us pause for a minute to remember these young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.

02 Oct 1986 81553638SP Alfonso Soneka Timaim from 32 Battalion was murdered by a member of Koevoet while he was at Bagani. He was 29.

02 Oct 1990: A civilian, James Elvin Nicholas Cruise was killed instantly and two others injured when he opened a parcel bomb that had been delivered to the computer company in Durban where he worked. It was known that the company worked with Trade Unions and other anti-apartheid organisations. He was 23.

02 Oct 1992: 88327762BG Gunner Marlon Patrick Dammert from 14 Artillery Regiment was killed when his Buffel Troop Carrier overturned at Nietverdiend after one of the tyres burst, causing the driver to lose control. He was 20.

02 Oct 1993: Captain Charles Sergei Keith Rudnick from 85 Combat Flying School was killed when his Atlas MB326M Impala Mk I, Serial No. 489 (Falcon 5) crashed during an air show display at Lanseria after the starboard wing separated in flight. Although he successfully ejected, he was already very close to the ground and the steep downward vector resulted in no proper parachute deployment or ejection seat separation. He was found dead still strapped into the ejector seat. He was 34.

Their names and sacrifice have not been forgotten.
