23 September, let us pause for a minute to remember the following young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.
23 Sep 1983: W85802B Lieutenant Frans Willem Conradie from the South West Africa Police Counter-Insurgency Wing: Ops-K (Koevoet) was critically injured at approximately 18:00 when his Rooikat vehicle overturned as the vehicle turned into the main street of Oshakati, opposite the Post Office. Warrant Officer Rob Brockway sustained a broken leg while Frans Conradieās hip and pelvis were crushed. They were transported to the sick bay at Sector 10 Headquarters before being casevaced by Puma Helicopter to the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital at AFB Ondangwa where Lieutenant Conradie was pronounced dead on arrival. He was 30.
23 Sep 1990: 83486357PS Lieutenant Sean James McGuiness from 42 Squadron was grievously burned when his Aermacchi AM-3C Bosbok, Serial No. 925 crashed at Potchefstroom on 12 September 1990. He succumbed to his injuries in 1 Military Hospital on 23 September 1990. He was 23. His Co-Pilot, Lieutenant Edward Diggle, also from 42 Squadron was killed in the initial crash.
Their names and sacrifice have not been forgotten.
