24 February, we pause to remember these young men from our Generation who answered the sunset call.
24 Feb 1963: Corporal Louis Claude Paul Glibert from the Air Force Gymnasium was killed in a private motor vehicle accident on the Old Johannesburg Road between Johannesburg and Pretoria. He was 18.
24 Feb 1980: 75014688PE Staff Sergeant Almerindo MourĂ£o da Costa PMM from 1 Reconnaissance Regiment and former member of the Portuguese FLECHAS in Angola, was Reported Missing on 24 February 1980 during a Special Forces undercover operation at an undisclosed location. He has no known grave and remains unaccounted for. He was 35.
24 Feb 1984: Special Warrant Officer Herman Hosea from the South West Africa Police Counter-Insurgency Wing: Ops-K Division (Koevoet) was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 28.
24 Feb 1987: 83289371BG Airman Nicolaas Wilhelmus Jacobus van Rheede van Oudtshoorn from Air Force Base Grootfontein died from a gunshot wound accidentally sustained while stationed at the Base. He was 19.
24 Feb 1988: 86092632BG Rifleman Israel Vernon Oscar Alexander was stationed at Bagani Military Base when he was Reported Missing while swimming in the river. He jumped into the water and never resurfaced and it is thought that he may have been taken by a crocodile. He has no known grave and remains unaccounted for. He was 19.
Their names and sacrifices will not be forgotten.
