Lest We Forget... 26 April

26 April, let us pause to remember these young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.

26 April 1964: P53595 Signaler Esias Engelbertus Bosch from the South African Corps of Signals was killed in a private motor vehicle accident in Pretoria. He was 17.

26 April 1966: 1248483 Lieutenant Herman Alan Day from 1 Squadron was killed when his Canadair CL13B Sabre, Serial No. 353 crashed near Pilansberg during a routine training flight. He was 24.

26 April 1975: 64186067E Corporal John Cornelius Hanekom from 5 Military Works Unit was accidentally drowned while swimming at Rundu. He was 27.

26 April 1982: 77317840BG Lance Corporal Gert Gotlieb Gouche from 1 Parachute Battalion was accidentally killed when his Buffel Troop Carrier overturned at Kombat near Grootfontein. He was 20.

26 April 1982: 80656707KB Rifleman Dawid Lukas from 1 SWA SPES, SWATF was killed when his Buffel Troop carrier overturned while on Patrol in Northern Owamboland. He was 22.

26 April 1994: 87778783PE Rifleman Shadrack Vusi Mnisi from 121 Battalion was Killed in Action when he was shot dead by persons unknown while on foot patrol during anti-crime operations at Loskop in Kwazulu-Natal. He was 33.

Their names and sacrifices will not be forgotten.
