28 February, let us pause to remember these young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.
28 Feb 1976: 727333 Trooper Christopher Diedricks, a South African National serving in 1 Commando, 1st Battalion Rhodesian Light Infantry, was Killed in Action after suffering fatal gunshot wounds during a contact with insurgents at Chibara Hills, Mount Darwin. He was 22.
28 Feb 1977: 70484753BT Private Craig Murray Irvine from 32 Field Workshop Squadron was killed in a military vehicle accident on the Bagani to Rundu Road. He was 22.
28 Feb 1979: 73348583BG Sergeant Bernhard Fritz Wilhelm Kirchner from 41 Battalion (Later 911 Battalion SWATF) was Killed in Action near Nkongo during a Contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents. He was 21.
28 Feb 1988: 84361799BG Rifleman Deon Edward McIntyre from 6 SAI, attached to Infantry School suffered critical head injuries in a private motor vehicle accident and was admitted to 2 Military Hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to these injuries. He was 19.
Their names and sacrifices will not be forgotten.
