Lest We Forget... 30 September

30 September, let us pause to remember these young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.

30 Sep 1983: 79405536BG Rifleman Joshua Daniel Joubert Steyn from 4 SAI, attached to 61 Mechanised Battalion Group was accidentally killed in a shooting Incident at Omuthiya. He was 20.

30 Sep 1988: 86539533BG Sapper Robert Renison from the Army Battle School died from a gunshot wound, accidentally self-inflicted. He shot himself in the chest while playing with his firearm in the Duty Room at Lohatla. He was 18.

30 Sep 1988: 8776629BW Rifleman Lefu Andries Chauzane from 54 Battalion was accidentally killed near the entrance to 5 Maintenance Unit in Owamboland. He had crawled under his Kwevoel vehicle to check on a mechanical problem and as he emerged from under the vehicle, he was struck on the head by a passing Buffel Troop Carrier and suffered very severe head injuries. He died on the scene a short while later. He was 18.

30 Sep 1998: 8539326PE Flight Sergeant Vincent Killoch from the South African Air Force was killed in a private motor vehicle accident at Kyalami. He was 28.

Their names and sacrifice have not been forgotten.
