06 April, let us pause to remember these young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.
06 April 1977: 76928167SP Rifleman Simon Henrique from 32 Battalion was Killed in Action during a contact with enemy forces in Southern Angola. He was 29.
06 April 1981: 73269086BG Rifleman Petrus Jacobus Venter from SWA SPES Unit SWATF was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents near the Cut Line. He was 23.
06 April 1982: 78347462BG Rifleman Hymie Landsman from 8 SAI was killed in a Military Vehicle Accident in Eastern Kavangoland. He was 19.
06 April 1987: 80532278BT Private Russell Joseph Brissett from 1 Medical Battalion Group was killed when his Buffel Troop Carrier overturned near the Railway Station in Mamelodi during Operation Xenon. Russell was not buckled in properly and was flung out of the vehicle. The radio that was attached to the Buffel, also broke loose and landed on Russell, crushing his chest. He was 23.
06 Apr 2003: Lieutenant Colonel R W Timmerman from Special Forces Headquarters collapsed and died after suffering a fatal heart attack while on duty. He was 65.
Their names and sacrifices will not be forgotten.
