Lest We Forget... 8 April

08 April, let us pause to remember these young men from our Generation who answered the Sunset call.

08 April 1958: P/18212 Corporal Francois Willem Bornman from 4 Field Regiment died from injuries received in a collision between a car and a train at the Meyer Street level crossing in Potchefstroom. He was 22.

08 April 1974: Sergeant Francois Jacobus Schoeman from Air Force Base Potchefstroom was killed in a private motor vehicle accident in Potchefstroom. He was 28.

08 Apr 1977: 87087201CK Rifleman Jacobus Weyers from the 2nd Battalion South African Cape Corps was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 21.

08 April 1980: 75425355PE Lieutenant Christo Stephan Grundling from 2 Field Engineer Regiment was killed in a military vehicle accident at Impala Base. He was 20.

08 April 1980: 76251438BG Rifleman Lesley Andrew Scholtz from 3 SAI was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Kavangoland. He was 20.

08 April 1984: Special Constable Filimon Lukas from the SWA Police Counter-Insurgency Wing: Ops K Division (Koevoet) was killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Northern Owamboland. He was 24.

08 April 1986: Two members from 101 Battalion SWATF were Killed in Action during a Contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Southern Angola. They were:

81896391SW Corporal Noag Kavari. He was 23.

84908565SW Rifleman Joao Domingos. He was 26.

08 April 1988: 89098240CK Lance Corporal Carlos Thomas Moon from the Cape Regiment was Killed in Action during a contact with SWAPO/PLAN insurgents in Southern Angola. He was 21.

08 April 1997: 92669811PV Lance Corporal Motlatsi Abel Ramashala from the Eastern Province Command Maintenance Unit was killed in a military vehicle accident at Sterkstroom. He was 22.

Their names and sacrifices will not be forgotten.
